WBW Logo Contest Semi-Finalists

Before we get to the WBW Logo Contest semi-finalists or discuss the voting, I’d like to thank each and every person who submitted a logo or logos for consideration. There were dozens of great entries and it was difficult for the WBW advisors to narrow it down to the 6 you see below. I was planning to post all of the entries, but that would have been over whelming on many levels.

You can take a look at the final 6 logos here or at Flickr account I’ve created for them.

Voting will happen right here on this site via the poll you see to your right. The semi-final round will run from today until May 31 at 11:59 p.m.

Then, the top 3 vote getters will move into the finals. We’ll update the poll and announce the final voting procedure in early June.

WBW 44 Linked Up, WBW 45 Announced

Gary from Wine Library TV has asked Mott to link up the 59 participants of WBW 44 over at the WLTV forums. Lots of links to check out to find some nice Cabernet Franc from France. Seems like Gary might have also encouraged some more first time participants to our monthly virtual tasting, which is all very good stuff.

WBW LogoFor next month, I will again host and I’ve picked my favorite white variety, Riesling as the theme. But I wanted to celebrate the wines made where I think the best examples are found in Northern Europe. So pick up a wine made from Riesling grown in Germany, France’s Alsace, Austria, Northern Italy, the Czech Republic or Slovenia and post your notes by May 7th. If you don’t have a blog, just register and post here.

Can we crack 60 participants next time? I think so…

French Cab Franc for WBW 44

Video podcaster Gary Vaynerchuk is our host for our next virtual tasting and he’s just selected French Cabernet Franc as the theme. While you can find some Bordeaux blends made up from a majority of Cab Franc — most notably Chateau Cheval Blanc — most of us will look to the Loire valley. There you can find some great wines made at places like Bourgueil, Chinon and Saumur-Champigny. Alternatively, you can look for examples from the south of France where Gary was recently tasting. Either way, pick up a bottle and blog it by April 2nd. Just post your entry to Gary’s comments for this episode of Wine Library TV and he’ll figure out some way to summarize this event.

If you are living under a rock and have not watched Gary’s podcast, check out the following video queued up about where he makes his WBW announcement:

Roundup of WBW 42 Posted, WBW 43 Announced

WBW LogoAndrew has posted a summary of WBW 42 over at Spittoon. Quite a nice turnout of more than 50 bloggers who used only 7 words in their reviews of Italian red wines.

Joel over at Wine Life Today is the host for next month’s tasting which will be held in just 2 weeks time. His theme is comfort wines where we can choose our favorite wine to unwind with. Join us on March 5th for the comforting results.

WBW 42 is TOMORROW!

We’ve somehow missed posting about Wine Blogging Wednesday 42 hosted by Andrew from Spittoon.

Just Seven WordsAs he posted last month, the theme is Just Seven Words. That’s an Italian red wine summarized and reviewed in just 7 words. No, I’m not making this up. He’s even posted some ideas recently to help but from personal experience, this one is tougher than it sounds.

See you tomorrow with a rather short review along with scores of my friends.

Wine Blogging Wendesday Logo Contest (Deadline: March 31, 2008)

The trusty Wine Blogging Wednesday logo that you see here has served us well. It’s been plastered all over the blogosphere, appearing on participant sites, host blogs and of course right here on WineBloggingWednesday.org.

But, as everyone’s favorite virtual wine tasting event enters its 42nd edition, I think it’s time for a change.

With that in mind, I’m excited to announce the new Wine Blogging Wednesday Logo Contest, which starts today and will run until March 31, 2008.

At any point during that time, you can submit your logo idea via email to winebloggingwednesday@gmail.com. Once we’ve collected all of the submissions, we’ll post them to Flickr and everyone can vote for their favorite.

We don’t have any official prizes lined up yet, but isn’t the love and adoration of the wine blogging community prize enough?

If you’re a blogger and would like to contribute to a prize pack, let me know.

So, if you’re a designer or play one on TV, make sure that you send in your submission by March 31. Spread the word, the more submissions we have, the better!

WBW #41 - Friuli Whites - January 2008

Jack and Joanne of Fork & Bottle are hosting January’s WBW. The theme is the spectacular, incredible, nearly unbeatable white wines from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Northeastern Italy (with a touch of Slovenia).

All of the details are here - and, this is the permanent url.

Dust off those white wine glasses, get yourself to that Italian-savvy wine store, and explore the wonders of the white wine world, the sensational vino biancos of Friuli.

Wine Blogging Wednesday Flickr Group

Wine Blogging Wednesday Flickr Group

“Hows about a flickr group for WBW?”, thought I. My co-managers agreed so a rousing cheer please for the Wine Blogging Wednesday Flickr Group (well, what else could I call it??)

Think of it as a show case for your photographs and extra publicity for your hard work in participating in the regular fun that is Wine Blogging Wednesday.

The ‘rules’ are simple - one photograph a month in support of your WBW blog post. Tag the photograph wbw and “wine blogging wednesday” and include a link in the description field. And that’s it.

You need a flickr account (obviously) but if you haven’t got one already the free version allows up to 200 photographs. Head to the group page - http://www.flickr.com/groups/wine_blogging_wednesday/ and join. Then once your photos are uploaded use the send to group drop down to have them listed.

Silver Burgundy Summarized; WBW 40 Announced

One of the hazards of writing multiple blogs is you forget to update one of them sometimes. After posting a summary and announcement on my personal wine blog I neglected to publish the same information here. Sorry about that.

Anyway, Neil did a fine job summarizing Wine Blogging Wednesday 39 over at Brooklynguy’s Wine and Food Blog. In all, over thirty bloggers reviewed over 50 wines from Burgundy’s more reasonable appellations. Check out the complete write-up here.

Meanwhile, Sonadora from Wannabe Wino announced the theme for the 40th virtual tasting: Que Sirah Sirah. She’s asked us to find Petite Sirah or Durif based wines and post our entries by December 12th. That’s only a week from now so consider this a reminder.

Hope to see you participate on you own blog or right here. Just register and post your entry and one of us will approve and post to this feed.

WBW 38 Summary Mapped; “Silver” Burgundy for WBW 39

I’ve very late posting here but Gabriella and Ryan posted a great summary of WBW 38 over at Catavino some time ago. They mapped most of the entries making for a very interesting way to read reviews of Portuguese table wines.

Neil from Brooklynguy’s Wine and Food Blog also announced the theme for WBW 39 as “Silver” Burgundy. Instead of wines from the Côte d’Or (gold coast), he suggests we sample wines from some more reasonable appellations of Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais.

There is still more than a week to find your wine and write it up. Join us November 14th and remember you can post here if you don’t have a blog. Just register, login and write your draft. One of us will post to the site and let Neil know so it can be included in the summary.

Cheers!
