WBW 38 Summary Mapped; “Silver” Burgundy for WBW 39

I’ve very late posting here but Gabriella and Ryan posted a great summary of WBW 38 over at Catavino some time ago. They mapped most of the entries making for a very interesting way to read reviews of Portuguese table wines.

Neil from Brooklynguy’s Wine and Food Blog also announced the theme for WBW 39 as “Silver” Burgundy. Instead of wines from the Côte d’Or (gold coast), he suggests we sample wines from some more reasonable appellations of Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais.

There is still more than a week to find your wine and write it up. Join us November 14th and remember you can post here if you don’t have a blog. Just register, login and write your draft. One of us will post to the site and let Neil know so it can be included in the summary.

Cheers!

Go native - WBW #37 - indigenous varieties

Say goodbye Chardonnay and hello Falanghina! Or Romorantin! Mencia or, heck, Moschofilero! If you have just been waiting to venture of the beaten path, now is your chance to try an obscure grape variety from it’s homeland! The justification is the 37th edition of the internet wine juggernaut known as Wine Blogging Wednesday and our theme is to “go native and try an indigenous grape variety!

Surf on over to this month’s host, Dr. Vino for the full details!

How to post to this blog

One of the features we hope will increase the participation in WBW is the ability to register and post your notes to this blog. Near the bottom of the right sidebar is a “Register” link that will enable you to sign up. By default you will be given the ability to create draft blog posts and participate in our forums with the same username and login. Your blog posts will be reviewed and possibly edited for language before being posted to the blog feed. All blog SPAM or inappropriate content will be deleted.

Our hope is more consumers will post their notes and we totally remove the barrier of having a blog in order to participate.

Summary of WBW 35 Posted

Michelle and Kevin over at My Wine Education have posted a great summary of WBW 35. Over 40 bloggers wrote about their Spanish wine finds, many choosing to review more than just one. The result is about 100 Spanish values with only a couple wines to avoid.

Great job, guys!

WBW #36 Announced: Let’s Get Naked

Now that I have your attention, let’s get down to business.

WBW 36: Let's Get NakedNext month, on August 8th to be exact, we’ll be celebrating the three-year anniversary of Wine Blogging Wednesday. Actually, in the early days, it was called World Wide Wine Blogging Wednesday. But, participants quickly streamlined the name and the rest is Internet history. What started out as a few hardcore wine blogging geeks has really grown into more than I could have imagined. For that, I am grateful. Thank you to every person who has ever participated.

But let’s stop looking back…let’s look forward.

The theme for WBW #36 is “Let’s Get Naked.” No, I’m not suggesting or encouraging anyone to drink their wine naked, though I guess you can do what you want in the privacy of your own home. Instead, I want everyone to try a naked wine…specifically a naked chardonnay.

You’ll see them labeled in many different ways: naked, unoaked, unwooded, steel-fermented, etc but they all have one thing in common…they are made without oak barrels. I’ve long been a fan of this style of chardonnay and I thought it would be fun to see what people can find and what they think of the wines. There aren’t any price or region limits this time. Just go out and find an un-oaked chardonnay and drink it. Easy, right?

Of course, I couldn’t let WBW’s third anniversary go by with just a simple theme and no other news. Oh no no no. I’ve got a lot more in store for WBW as we move into the future.

First, I’m happy to officially announce the launch of this new blog winebloggingwednesday.org. It will be a one-stop shop for everything WBW. So, instead of having to surf the wine blogosphere constantly to make sure you hear about the next theme, you can come here to learn all that there is to know.

Next, you guys all know me as the founder of and the central figure behind Wine Blogging Wednesday. But, in order to grow the event even further, I’ve decided to put together a group of WBW Advisors who will help me manage, grow and develop the event even further. You know this group of bloggers already–they are some of WBW’s most seasoned participants and wine blogging superstars. So please welcome Tim Elliott of Winecast, Andy Barrow from Spittoon and “Dr. Vino” Tyler Colman as the WBW Advisors. This group may grow in the near future, so stay tuned for more information on that. We’ll be working together to manage the ever-growing hosting queue, to build participation and to come up with new ways to use technology as part of WBW.

And finally, we have all enjoyed the current WBW logo for a while now. But, it’s time for a change so I’m announcing a new Wine Blogging Wednesday Logo Contest . Details will be coming later this week.

So that’s it from WBW headquarters here on Long Island. Don’t forget to join us on August 8th with your naked chardonnay!

WBW 35 Announced: Passionate Spain

Michelle over at My Wine Education announced the theme for WBW 35 as “Passionate Spain” a couple weeks ago but I was in Spain and didn’t get a chance to post about it here. Basically she is asking us to find any wine from Spain, red or white, and blog about it with special emphasis on wines under $10 USD. There are certainly many good values to choose from here in the U.S. but European bloggers will also have no trouble finding good choices for 7 Euros or less based upon my recent experience.

Join us on July 11th to see what everyone picks up to try.
