WBW 40 Summary Posted

In what looks like a new participation record, Sonadora from Wannabe Wino has posted her summary of WBW 40, Que Sirah Sirah. Over 50 blogger participated reviewing scores of Petite Sirah, with many great values. Thanks to all for participating, Sonadora for a great job hosting and watch for the announcement of WBW 41 coming soon.

Wine Blogging Wednesday Flickr Group

“Hows about a flickr group for WBW?”, thought I. My co-managers agreed so a rousing cheer please for the Wine Blogging Wednesday Flickr Group (well, what else could I call it??)

Think of it as a show case for your photographs and extra publicity for your hard work in participating in the regular fun that is Wine Blogging Wednesday.

The ‘rules’ are simple - one photograph a month in support of your WBW blog post. Tag the photograph wbw and “wine blogging wednesday” and include a link in the description field. And that’s it.

You need a flickr account (obviously) but if you haven’t got one already the free version allows up to 200 photographs. Head to the group page - http://www.flickr.com/groups/wine_blogging_wednesday/ and join. Then once your photos are uploaded use the send to group drop down to have them listed.

Carver Sutro 2004 Petite Sirah

This is definitely one of the best Petite Sirah’s I have ever tasted. It was recommended that the wine be decanted and allowed to breath for about 3, but I was not that patient. I did decant and wait about two hours. The wait was worth it. This inky blue/purple wine is packed with flavor. Robust and powerful with hints of blueberries, blackberries, and spice, the mouth feel is silky and sensuous. I can’t wait to open another bottle at Christmas to share with family and friends.

Silver Burgundy Summarized; WBW 40 Announced

One of the hazards of writing multiple blogs is you forget to update one of them sometimes. After posting a summary and announcement on my personal wine blog I neglected to publish the same information here. Sorry about that.

Anyway, Neil did a fine job summarizing Wine Blogging Wednesday 39 over at Brooklynguy’s Wine and Food Blog. In all, over thirty bloggers reviewed over 50 wines from Burgundy’s more reasonable appellations. Check out the complete write-up here.

Meanwhile, Sonadora from Wannabe Wino announced the theme for the 40th virtual tasting: Que Sirah Sirah. She’s asked us to find Petite Sirah or Durif based wines and post our entries by December 12th. That’s only a week from now so consider this a reminder.

Hope to see you participate on you own blog or right here. Just register and post your entry and one of us will approve and post to this feed.

Reminder: WBW 39 is tomorrow!

Just a quick reminder that Wine Blogging Wednesday 39 is tomorrow. There is still time to find your “Silver” Burgundy and join us either on your blog or right here (just register and post your entry).

Host Neil from Brooklynguy’s Wine and Food Blog has been busy warming up over the past few days; check out his preliminary tasting notes here and here.

WBW 38 Summary Mapped; “Silver” Burgundy for WBW 39

I’ve very late posting here but Gabriella and Ryan posted a great summary of WBW 38 over at Catavino some time ago. They mapped most of the entries making for a very interesting way to read reviews of Portuguese table wines.

Neil from Brooklynguy’s Wine and Food Blog also announced the theme for WBW 39 as “Silver” Burgundy. Instead of wines from the Côte d’Or (gold coast), he suggests we sample wines from some more reasonable appellations of Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais.

There is still more than a week to find your wine and write it up. Join us November 14th and remember you can post here if you don’t have a blog. Just register, login and write your draft. One of us will post to the site and let Neil know so it can be included in the summary.

Cheers!

WBW 37 summed up, WBW 38 introduced!

54 bloggers from around the world took the challenge to “go native” and taste a wine from an indigenous grape from its homeland. See the summary of the off-the-beaten-path wines over at Dr. Vino. [UPDATE: Thanks for the participation--this appears to be a new record number of participants! A record achieved without steroids!]

And the next Wine Blogging Wednesday has been announced at Catavino: Portuguese table wines! They have some suggestions to steer you away from the more traditional wines and continue the new tradition of “bonus points.” Check out the assignment for October 10!

Go native - WBW #37 - indigenous varieties

Say goodbye Chardonnay and hello Falanghina! Or Romorantin! Mencia or, heck, Moschofilero! If you have just been waiting to venture of the beaten path, now is your chance to try an obscure grape variety from it’s homeland! The justification is the 37th edition of the internet wine juggernaut known as Wine Blogging Wednesday and our theme is to “go native and try an indigenous grape variety!

Surf on over to this month’s host, Dr. Vino for the full details!

What Should I Do?

Just a quick note to let everyone with a blog know to act as normal and post there… those without, post here. Clear?

Update 8/8: It seems some folks are confused about what to do here with the new group blog so I’ll cover this in a bit more detail:

  • Participants with blogs should post their entries at their own blog and trackback to Lenn’s post as is the normal custom. Also please send Lenn a quick email with your blog link.
  • Those without blogs can register here and post their notes to this blog feed. Please note that your entry will go into the moderation queue and Lenn or I will approve and post shortly after you submit your draft.
  • Lenn will post a summary of the event at his blog and cross-post here a few days after the event.
  • I will also post a feed from Technorati on the sidebar to help follow the posts closer to real-time.

Sorry for the confusion.

Cheers!

How to post to this blog

One of the features we hope will increase the participation in WBW is the ability to register and post your notes to this blog. Near the bottom of the right sidebar is a “Register” link that will enable you to sign up. By default you will be given the ability to create draft blog posts and participate in our forums with the same username and login. Your blog posts will be reviewed and possibly edited for language before being posted to the blog feed. All blog SPAM or inappropriate content will be deleted.

Our hope is more consumers will post their notes and we totally remove the barrier of having a blog in order to participate.
